All Saints Cathedral Church

All Saints’ Cathedral Church (ASC) is the Provincial Cathedral of the Anglican Church of Kenya and the Diocesan Cathedral of All Saints’ Cathedral Diocese in Nairobi.

The Cathedral whose history goes back to 1917 has current Sunday attendance of over 4,500 people comprising about 700 children, 400 teenagers, 800 youth and 2,600 adults although this number is far below the number of registered church members.

In order to respond to the diversity that is presented by its congregation, ASC holds 13 services on a Sunday and reaches out through over 35 distinct ministries.

The Cathedral has a well cherished heritage, being a national cathedral that is strategically positioned. The Cathedral is situated at the edge of Uhuru Park, a key facility for national celebrations and a prominent recreation spot for residents of Nairobi.

It is registered under the National Museums of Kenya and is therefore a “listed building” in the Ministry of National Heritage in the country. Being the Provincial Cathedral, it enjoys an identity within the Province which transcends that of any other ACK church.

It is the home of the Provincial services and is of interest across the Province with an influence on national character. This national positioning exposes the institution to interaction with political, economic, and socio-cultural issues both at the local, national and international levels. This is attested by its membership and the number of visitors who frequent church services within the year.

The ASC Kindergarten, which was established in the colonial era, has remained part of the Cathedral’s heritage over years. At the same time, the Kindergarten facilities have been used for ministry and social activities since its establishment.

The establishment of a primary school in 1988 is another key milestone in the Cathedral’s history. The first standard eight class graduated in 1995. The school has a population of 250 pupils, which includes 30 pupils from the pre-school section. The primary school is located in an 8 acre piece of land in Madaraka, near Strathmore University, off Mbagathi Way/Langata Road. The grounds are used for social and ministry functions by All Saints’ Cathedral membership and the local community at large.

The Cathedral has a congregation that brings together people that represent the social, economic, and political diversity that exists in Kenya. It is an engaging, demanding, and dynamic environment with a congregation that has very high expectations in service delivery. Currently, the Cathedral has 8 clergy, 11 administrative staff, 24 teachers and 30 support staff in the Kindergarten and Primary Schools.
